Historical/Biographical Note 

The Club of Odd Volumes was founded on 25 January 1887 by a group of eighteen Boston bibliophiles in order to promote literary and artistic tastes, the exhibition of books, and social relations among the members. Essentially a dinner club during its first two decades, the club expanded its activities to include an active exhibition and publishing program as well as the maintenance of a library. In the 1920s it secured its own clubhouse on Mount Vernon Street in Boston, where it remains quartered today.

 

Scope and Contents 

Announcements of programs, meetings, exhibitions, lectures and special events. Also a small collection of letters between presidents of the club and Grolier Club librarian Ruth Shepard Grannis for the period 1920-1922.

 

General Note 

The Grolier Club has several imprints from the Club of Odd Volumes, including some Yearbooks and Alexander Whiteside Williams’ Social history of the Club of Odd Volumes (1969).
