Historical/Biographical Note

The firm of E.P. Goldschmidt was established in 1923 in London at 45 New Bond Street, although Ernest Philip Goldschmidt, the founder, was selling books prior to this date. Goldschmidt died in 1954, but the firm has continued to operate under his name. It is now located at 64 Drayton Gardens, London.

These books consist of records maintained between 1921 and 1981. The primary series of fourteen account books is arranged in a sequence of facing pages with individual items numbered from from 1 to 43,676. The left hand page gives: author/short title, date purchased, dealer or auction house supplying the book, and price paid by EPG. The right hand page lists date sold, buyer, and price realized. The dates given below represent the date EPG purchased an item. The sale date was sometimes soon thereafter, but sometimes more than a year later.
