Goodspeed’s Book Shop, founded in Boston in 1898 by George Goodspeed, dealt extensively in prints, engravings, mezzotints, wood-engravings, etc. as well as in books.

 

Scope and Contents

Price lists (ca. 1980s) generally include name of artist, title, date, medium, work from which item was taken (if relevant), state (if relevant) and sale price. Some lists are undated. Artists strongly represented in the lists are John James Audubon (both his Birds of America and Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America), Currier & Ives, and Louis Novak. Also lists of woodcuts, etc. by Winslow Homer and Thomas Nast. An undated but obviously older list includes work by Samuel Palmer, Joseph Pennell, and James MacNeill Whistler. Also typed copy of article editions on Alexander Wilson’s American Ornithology by Walter Faxon.
