Note
English poet and book collector, best known for the various
editions of his London Lyrics
published between 1857 and 1909. After the death of his father-in-law in 1884,
Frederick Locker assumed the name “Lampson” and resided mainly at Rowfant in

Clippings of newspaper and magazine reviews of the various editions of London Lyrics published between 1868 and 1878, along with some reviews of other collections of vers de société. The album includes a holograph list in pencil of the reviews and a copy of the etching of Locker-Lampson taken from a portrait by George Du Maurier. Three ALS from unidentifiable correspondents are laid in.

Title and date on spine: F. Locker/MS Letters/News Notices 1868-1878. The letters were removed from the album at some point and do not form part of this collection, but the correspondents’ names form part of the holograph list in front matter.
Bookplate of Locker-Lampson pasted to inside front endpaper.
Locker-Lampson’s “Rowfant Library” was sold to an American bookseller in 1905 and dispersed.
