Historical/Biographical Note

A graduate of Columbia College (New York City), McVikar’s work appeared in the magazine Life, which was published in New York from 1883 to 1936. He also illustrated an edition of Henry James’ Daisy Miller.

 

Scope and Contents

Books and some magazine issues illustrated by McVikar. Includes his book Matrimonial Advice (New York: Allen & Co., 1896); XXIV Bits of Vers de Societe by Frederick Stokes with illustrations by McVikar (New York: Stokes, l890); and a children’s book, The Boston Tea Party, by Josephine Pollard with illustrations by McVikar (New York: Dodd Mead Co., 1882). The copy of Matrimonial Advice has two of the original drawings for the illustrations tipped in. Also a copy of an anonymous work, The Goose-Creek Church, published by the Pelham Press (New York, 1901).
