Biographical/Historical Note:
John Francis Fleming was born in New York City in 1910. At the age of 15, he began work as a clerk for the antiquarian bookseller A.S.W. Rosenbach in New York City. Rosenbach became a mentor and Fleming was eventually promoted to salesman, manager, and by 1947, vice-president of the Rosenbach Company. Rosenbach died in 1952; shortly thereafter, Fleming purchased a substantial portion of his remaining book and manuscript collection. He continued business as John F.
