Historical/Biographical Note
Grolier Club member Haskell F. Norman, a psychiatrist from California, collected historically important medical texts for over thirty years. In 1991 Jeremy H. Norman & Co. published a catalog, The Haskell F. Norman Library of Science and Medicine, edited by Diana H. Hook. Dr. Norman then conceived and organized the exhibition “One Hundred Books Famous in Medicine,” held at the Grolier Club in the fall of 1994. The compiler of the Norman Library catalog created a catalogue for the exhibition in early 1993. The text originally prepared for the catalog was reviewed by Hope Mayo, John Parascandala and G. Thomas Tanselle; Hope Mayo then edited the catalog text that was published under the title One Hundred Books Famous in Medicine late in 1995.
