Historical/Biographical Note
The printing historian Rollo G. Silver was professor of library science at Simmons College in Boston from 1950 to 1965 and the author of numerous historical works on American printing and publishing. He was a member of the Grolier Club and a founding member of the American Printing Historical Association (APHA). He died in 1989.

Scope and Contents
Holograph and typed notes and bibliographies, printed brochures and correspondence. This material was gathered for The book in America (2nd ed., 1951), for which Silver and Lawrence C. Wroth contributed the chapter “Book production and distribution from the American Revolution to the War between the States.”
