Biographical/Historical Note:
Robert D. Graff is a book collector who maintains a private library with his wife Marjorie Graff in Far Hills, New Jersey. Robert D. Graff’s collecting interests are focused on 20th century American, English and Irish literature, including first editions. In 1965, Graff became a member of the Grolier Club. He has since served as its President (1978-1982), as a member of the Council, the Committee on Publications, and the Centennial Committee (1983-1984).

Roger Stoddard is the emeritus Curator of Manuscripts at the Harvard College Library, from which he retired in 2006. Stoddard held positions at Houghton for four decades, working in acquisitions, exhibitions, and teaching at Harvard. He is also a prolific writer and speaker and was a member of the Grolier Club from 1963-2005.1

Scope and Content Note:
This collection consists primarily of correspondence, offprints, lecture transcripts, professional papers, and personal notes exchanged between Robert D. Graff and Roger E. Stoddard. Several items relate to farewell events and addresses given in honor of Roger Stoddard by various bookish organizations, including a dinner at the Grolier Club in Jan. 2005. Some papers relate to Stoddard's activities at Houghton, including the commemorative exhibition, RES Gestae: Libri Manent: A Curator's Choice of Books Purchased for the Houghton Library from 1965 to 2003. The collection also includes Graff's personal copies of three books by Stoddard: Marks in Books (Cambridge, Mass: Houghton Library, Harvard University, 1985); A Library-Keeper's Business (New Castle, Del.: Oak Knoll Press, 2002); and Roger Eliot Stoddard at Sixty-five: A Celebration (New York: Thornwillow Press, 2000).
