This material was transferred to the Grolier Club from the Montclair Art Museum in April 2010.

 Biographical/Historical Note:
The Montclair Art Museum is an American art museum founded in 1914 in Montclair, New Jersey. The Museum had a small number of bookplates in its collection from its early years, but the core of the collection came from 2,000 bookplates donated by Helen Francis Brockett in the 1920s, with other bookplate donations from Eulalia Van Lennep in 1927 and Mary Van Lennep in 1949. The Museum added to these gifts by collecting bookplates created for Montclair residents or by New Jersey artists. The bookplate collection was curated by Edith Anderson Rights, the librarian at the Museum’s LeBrun Library.

 Scope and Content Note:
This collection includes approximately 7,173 bookplates, with some original prints and engraved metal plates. Additionally, there is a card catalog accompanying the collection, as well as supplemental indexes and research material.

Electronic indexes to this collection were created in the 1980s by Edith Anderson Rights on a Smith-Corona machine (possibly a PWP 7000LT). The indexes were migrated from the original 2.8" Smith-Corona disks to .rtf files by Scott Johnson of Pivar Computing Services, Inc. (Buffalo Grove, IL) in April 2016. For access to the .rtf files, please contact repository.
