Historical/Biographical Note: 
Bookselling business in Paris, France, founded in 1875 as Damascène Morgand et Charles Fatout (Morgand et Fatout). At the death of Fatout in 1882, the firm operated under the name Damascène Morgand. In 1897 it merged with the bookseller Edouard Rahir, and the firm became known as Damascene Morgand (Edouard Rehir et cie, successeur).

Edouard Rahir (1862-1924) was a well-known antiquarian bookseller, bibliographer, and publisher in Paris (for a time the publisher for the Société des Bibliophiles François). He had a long-standing business relationship with Quaritch in London and was the author of La bibliothèque de l’amateur (1909 & 1924), a guide to book collecting, along with many catalogues. Some items from his library were sold shortly after his death, but the majority were sold between 1930 and 1938 by Parisian bookseller Francisque Lefrançois. The firm probably ceased operations around 1920.

Scope and Contents: 
Ledgers, inventories and lists include titles of books, buyers, prices, dates and other information for Morgand et Fatout, Damascène Morgand, and Edouard Rahir et cie, as well as one small ledger for the bookseller Francisque Lefrançois for the period July 1920-Jan. 1922. The ledgers include the “grand livres,” the “journaux,” and the “comptes généraux.”
