Historical/Biographical Note
Geoffrey Steele served as the fourth president of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of American (ABAA) from 1956-1958. He operated his business from his home in Lumberville, Pennsylvania, from the 1940’s until his retirement in 1989, specializing in books on architecture and the fine arts. In 1999, Steele was made an Honorary Friend of the Princeton University Library, a high honor he shared with William Scheide, Lady Eccles, and other eminent bibliographers and collectors. He died at the age of ninety-three on May 18, 2000. Steele was a member of the Grolier Club of New York, a bibliophile organization, from 1958 until his death.
