Biographical/Historical Note:
Jill Oriane Tarlau, a member of the Grolier Club, has a background as a letterpress printer as well as a bookbinder. She wrote her M.A. Thesis, “Revolution in Bookbinding,” at Mills College in Oakland, California, in 1986. She now lives in New York City.
Scope and Content Note:
The videos in this collection document the bookbinding work of Grolier Club member, Jill Oriane Tarlau. Two of the videos consist of raw footage and the accompanying commercial footage of interviews and demonstrations with Tarlau for the segment “Open Book” on the show “Breakfast With the Arts” on the A&E Network. The other two videos consist of footage of Tarlau discussing her bookbindings included in an exhibition at Librarie Nicaise in Paris in 1998.
Preservation Note: The original VHS tapes were digitized in 2014 and duplicated onto DVDs. Please see the container list for more information.
