Biographical/Historical Note:
Heinz D. “Harry” Lubrecht (1908-1997) was a German-born antiquarian book dealer and publisher. After emigrating to America in 1928, he began working for the bookselling firm G.E. Stechert & Co. (later known as Stechert-Hafner, Inc.), eventually becoming head of the Antiquarian Department, then Vice-President and Editor of Hafner Publishing Company. He left the company in 1974, worked compiling catalogs for Jack Bartfield, then established his own firm, Lubrecht & Cramer Booksellers and Publishers, which specialized in new scholarly books with a focus on natural history and botany. Lubrecht died in 1997 in New York.

 Scope and Content Note:
This collection includes Lubrecht’s correspondence, itineraries, and notes made during several work-related trips to Europe during the 1950s and 1960s, including his reports on the Frankfurt Book Fair. There is also a bound “Informal Record” of the Old Book Table (compiled by Eddie Lazare), which Lubrecht served as secretary of from 1968-1975; a collection of Stechert-Hafner catalogs and press clippings; and a posthumous reprint of a botany catalog printed in memory of Lubrecht, with a biographical sketch and press clipping.
